Yesterday, people started to set up the climate camp. After a long process full of uncertainties about where the camp could take place, we are now happy to be on a public sportsground at Lahey-Park near Holzweiler. Friendly landowners in the area are too much under pressure from the energy corporation RWE to host us, and even the courageous ones who offered us their land withdrew their invitation only recently after too many ‘visits’ from the police and other officials. Therefore the camp is now a registered political assembly. The site is not as immediate to the edge of the open-cast coal mine as planned, but it is on land that will possibly be digged away for the mine, depending on political decisions next year. So it is quite a hot spot, too. The last months, and all the obstacles that were put in our way to prevent the camp, confirmed us: Our resistance is a real pain for RWE. We are just at the right place!
